Full Day Trip to Spinalonga Land of Zeus and olive oil factory

With a minibus your Eye Travel guide shows you the Spinalonga island and other interesting places. Our first stop is in Agios Nikolaos where we have a fantastic view over the "Bottomless lake". You have some free time for a coffee, shopping and a stroll along the most eastern main city of Crete.
After passing Elounda it is time for SPINALONGA, the last leper colony of Europe. A typical Cretan fishing boat brings you to the island, this takes no more than 10 minutes. On the island you make a tour.
After finishing the trip on Spinalonga, a fishing boat brings you back to the small village of Plaka. Plaka is a tiny harbor, so the unique opportunity to eat fresh fish.

Through this route we will visit the area of the breathtaking Asterousia Mountains. We start driving through the route of the vineyards of Crete. 

Famous for the grape varieties and their wines, the villages we will cross are home to many well-known wineries. Our first stop is at Agios Thomas, a village at an altitude of 760 meters and with a history dating back to 1371 AD. 

Continuing our journey, we will cross the Messara valley, driving through olive groves before reaching the famous Monastery of Virgin Mary, Odigitria. Following a beautiful dirt road we will arrive at Matala, the village of southern Crete where the hippies lived in the 70s. Here, you will have free time to admire the village's beauty and visit the hippies' caves.

Spinalonga has been many things throughout its existence, including a Venetian outpost and an Ottoman town. It was even a leper colony, which led to it being dubbed the ‘Isle of Tears'.
